RCW: 2007 Year in Review, pt. 1
RCW: Year in Review
2007
Since going full-time in August of 2005, RCW had very productive years in ’05 and 2006, revitalizing San Antonio wrestling. SAIndyWrestlingScene tabbed River City Wrestling as the top promotion in 2006. With 2007 now in the past, let’s take a look at what happened this past year. Most of these details and results come from SAIndyWrestlingScene.blogspot.com.
January 2007: According to SaIndyWrestlingScene, “the top promotions in San Antonio seem to be back on track with RCW running 2 sold-out shows in January and announcing a big event in February.”
RCW began the year with a new champion – “The Smashing Machine” Ikaika, who won the title from Sicodelico Jr., who served as Hotstuff Hernandez’ proxy during an event in December 2006. The feud between the International Power Station and Team MEX appeared to be over. “One Man” Mike Dell finally captured a singles title in RCW by winning the Cyber Title, and Brandon Oliver became the manager of The Hardbodies.

River City Wrestling kicked off 2007 with the first wrestling show of the year in an event with 7 matches featuring several wrestlers new to San Antonio fans plus the return of other wrestlers who have been absent for several months. The standing room only crowd filled the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym at 105 Clovis and were enthusiastic in supporting the wrestlers.

Match # 1 - Andrew Dalton w/ Brandon Oliver vs. Gemini (win)
Match # 2 - B.J. Turner vs. Hotstuff Hernandez (win)
Match # 3 - Franco D'Angelo vs. Quinten Allen (win)
Match # 4 - Mike Foxx w/Miss Laura (win) vs. Sicodelico Jr.
Match # 5 - Joey Spector w/ Brandon Oliver (win) vs. J.T. LaMotta

Challengers Caucasian Knights - Scott McKenzie & Messiah (win and new champions) vs Champions The Texas Treats - Don Juan & Chris Marval
Match # 7 - Main Event- RCW Heavyweight Championship Match
Challenger One Man Mike Dell vs. Champion Ikaika (win and retains title)
Notes: The show saw the debut of a new faction from the Country of Caucasian Knights (CoCK) made up of Mike Foxx, B.J. Turner, Messiah & Scott McKenzie. Miss Laura originally came out with Team Mex, but the Caucasian Knights directed her to take her position at their sides. She eventually was instrumental in helping Mike Foxx defeat Sicodelico Jr.
Brandon Oliver and Joey Spector of the Hard Bodies announced that at the next RCW show Texas Explosion III on February 10, there will be a Fan Lumberjack Strap Tag Match pitting Oliver & Spector against Commissioner Yebisu and a partner to be announced by Oliver.
The Tag Titles changed hands when RCW junior Referee "Hotshot" Biff Hardwell refused to count a pin by the Treats on the Caucasian Knights, allowing the Knights to come back and take the victory and the titles. Immediately afterwards, Team Mex 's Hotstuff Hernandez announced that at Texas Explosion III the titles will be up against none other than the LAX (Hernandez & Homicide) of the NWA's TNA.
In the Main Event, Referee Biff was knocked out and it appeared that Mike Dell had won the title when senior Referee Alex Marrozos came out and counted a pin by Dell on Ikaika. Biff however restarted the match and Ikaika quickly took advantage and attacked Dell from behind, gaining the quick pin.
During the event, Pro Wrestling Torch had a reporter come out to our January 27 show, and below is their write-up. Be on the look out for the Southside Reporter article later this week.

Match # 6 - Triple Threat Match for Cyber Title
Champion "One Man" Mike Dell vs. Challenger Ikaika vs. Challenger Sicodelico Jr. (win and new Cyber Champion)
Match # 7 - Main Event - Tag Title Match
Country of Caucasian Knights - Scott McKenzie & Messiah w/ Miss Laura, Mike Foxx & B.J. Turner vs. LAX - Homicide & Hernandez (no decision)
Notes: Prior to the first match, Hardbody Andrew Dalton attempted to make an alliance with the Country of Caucasian Knights, however after his loss to Aguila Negro, the CoCK beat down both competitors.
Following the second match, Messiah piledrove Don Juan through the timekeepers table. Don Juan appeared to suffer a serious neck injury and was carried to the back lockerroom area.
During the third match, LaMotta was distracted by the music of his former team, the Hardbodies, allowing Rory Fox to score the pin.
Following the fourth match, the CoCK attempted to attack Chris Marval who escaped through the crowd.
In the Fan Lumberjack Strap Battle Royal, Chris Marval was the first competitor eliminated when he was arrested by the INS for an expired green card. The other wrestlers were eliminated in the following order: J.T. LaMotta, Rory Fox, Aguila Negro, Danny Matthews, Andrew Dalton, Brandon Oliver, Mr. Yebisu, Quinten Allen (eliminated by a run-in from Rory Fox) and Joey Spector. By winning, Franco D'Angelo earned a title shot at any RCW title at any future show.
Mike Dell suffered a serious gash to the head during the Triple Threat Match when he was hit in the head with a chair by Ikaika. Ikaika showed no interest in covering Dell for the pin, instead allowing Sicodelico Jr. to gain the victory and the Cyber Title. After the match, Sicodelico Jr. was also arrested by the INS while the CoCK celebrated.
The Main Event ended in controversial fashion after lead referee Alex Marrozos had been knocked out. Junior ref, Biff Hardwell came to the ring to continue the match. The end came as Messiah pinned Hernandez (pin counted by Biff) simultaneously with Homicide pinning McKenzie (pin counted by Alex.) The match was subsequently declared a draw. Afterwards the LAX cleared the ring except for the unfortunate Miss Laura who was tossed across the ring by Hernandez. Homicide was clearly upset at the end and made it clear that he intends that the results will be different "Next Time"
During this month, The Texas Treats were invited to be a part of a TNA iMPACT taping as part of the Latino Nation.
Also, Joey Spector gave everyone a scare by getting in a car accident on the way home from a Konnan benefit in Dallas. Fortunately, Spector and his father were okay and everyone within the RCW Family was relieved.

Match # 1 - Li Fang vs. Don Juan (win)
Match # 2 - Quinten Allen (win) vs. Rory Fox
Match # 3 - Messiah with Miss Laura (win) vs. Chris Marval
Match # 4 - Aguila Negro vs. Franco D'Angelo (win)
Match # 5 - RCW Cyber Championship
Challenger B.J. Turner with Miss Laura & Mr. Lawrence vs. Champion Sicodelico Jr. (win & retain title)
Match # 6 - RCW Tag Team Championship
Challengers The Hardbodies - Andrew Dalton & Joey Spector with Brandon Oliver (win & new champions) vs. Champions The Coalition of Caucasian Knights - Mike Foxx & Scott McKenzie with Miss Laura
Match # 7 - Main Event - RCW Heavyweight Title Match (Special Referee One Man Mike Dell)
Challenger Masada with Commissioner Yebisu (win & new champion) vs. Champion Ikaika
Notes: Before the first match, the Coalition of Caucasian Knights (CoCK) came to the ring with a large security agent, Mr. Lawrence who was carrying the RCW Cyber Championship Belt, which came into their possession last show when the new champion Sicodelico Jr. was taken into custody by the INS.
Following the first match, new announce team member Chris Jordan introduced "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo who was making his return to RCW. The interview was interrupted by RCW Champion Ikaika who wanted to know the special stipulation for his title match. Ikaika attacked and laid out Russo before Commissioner Yebisu came to the ring and informed everyone that the stipulation was that "One Man" Mike Dell would be the special referee for the match.
Following the fourth match, Franco D'Angelo revealed to the crowd that on March 25th he would be taking advantage of his title shot of choice, which he won last show with the battle royal victory. Rather than start at the top, Franco said, he intends to start at the bottom and work his way up. Therefore, he will be challenging Joey Spector for the Ring King Title.
During the Cyber Championship match, Junior Referee Biff Hardwell continued to show his favoritism toward the CoCK. Finally, Senior Ref Alex Marrozos came to the ring and forcibly replaced Biff. After the match, Alex and the members of Team Mex stripped Biff of his Referree uniform and physically threw him out of the ring.
In the Tag Team Title Match, the champions, the CoCK exercised what is known as the Freebirds rule and the belts were defended by Scott McKenzie and Mike Foxx. At the ending of the match, the members of Team Mex came to the ring and pulled Mike Foxx into the lockerroom area, forcing McKenzie to face the Hardbodies alone, which lead to the eventual pin and title change.
In the main event, Masada bled profusely from a wound to his forehead he had previously injured the night before in Denton in a match against Messiah. Although special referee Mike Dell has issues with Ikaika, stemming from the injury suffered at the last show, Dell showed only slight favoritism to Masada for most of the match, allowing the two men to battle outside the ring without disqualification. When Ikaika tried to bring a chair into the ring, however Dell intervened, pulling the chair away from Ikaika and hitting him with the chair. At the same time, Commissioner Yebisu helped Masada coat his arm with alcohol and lit the arm. Masada hit the already stunned Ikaika with the flaming forearm and quickly scored the pin, winning the title. Mike Dell then taunted Ikaika, challenging him to a "Grand Slam Street Fight" at the next show March 25.
Texas Treats at TNA Pay-Per-View
Congratulations to The Texas Treats -- Don Juan & Chris Marval -- who appeared on TNA's Pay-Per-View in March.
Message from Brandon Oliver
“Battlelines” was a great effort by the guys, and I think the crowd was thoroughly entertained. I think that RCW offered something for everyone.
“Battlelines” was special because I dedicated The Hardbodies victory to my daughter, Madison. She is a proven miracle and I was very happy to show her off to the fans of RCW. Anything can happen if you believe and Madison is living proof. She's the light of my life and I was happy to share this moment with my family.

Match # 5 - Main Event - Triple Treat for RCW Heavyweight Championship
Challenger Mike Foxx vs. Challenger Ikaika vs. Champion Masada (win & retain title)
Notes: In the first match, Don Juan's "Mystery Opponent" was announced to be "One Man"Mike Dell. The match ended when Ikaika came to the ring and hit Dell with a chair, causing the disqualification. Ikaika continued the attack on Dell.
In the third match, Mike Foxx came to the ring to help Rory Fox. Mike Foxx threw a chair into the ring to Rory Fox. Referee Alex Marrozos took the chair away from Fox. While Marrozos' back was turned, Marval rolled up Fox but Mike Foxx entered the ring and reversed the pin. Marrozos turned around in time to count the pin on Marval.
In the tag match, Franco D'Angelo announced he had a partner, the only man in the lockerroom nearly as perfect as he, "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo. The new tag team, logically named "Perfectly Beautiful" was unable to overcome the team work of the champions.
At the end of the triple-threat Title Match, Mike Dell came to the ring and hit Ikiaka with a chair. As Masada went to pin Ikaika, The Texas Treats rushed in and prevented Mike Foxx from stopping the pin.
In April, RCW first stole the show at an April 24 screening of WWE Films’ THE CONDEMNED. Fans chanted "RCW" and Ray The Voice and Jeff Houston took over the premiere with their announcing.

Match # 3 - Scott McKenzie with Miss Laura (win) vs. Chris Marval
Match # 4 - RCW Tag Team Championship Match

Match # 6 - Rory Fox vs. "Showtime" Eric Young (win)
Match # 7 - Main Event - Inter-Gender Tag Team Match
Mike Foxx & Miss Laura with Scott McKenzie & Dick Peabody vs. Hotstuff Hernandez & The Lovely Nicole (win)
Notes: At the beginning of the show, RCW announcer Jeff Houston introduced TNA Superstar "Showtime" Eric Young. Members of the Coalition of Caucasian Knights; Mike Foxx, Scott McKenzie, Miss Laura, Rory Fox and a large man who was later identified as Dick Peabody (unconfirmed), came to the ring. Rory Fox told Young that his "boss" Robert Roode had made Young a member of the Caucasian Knights for the evening. RCW owner Brandon Oliver came to the ring in his unsettling Hardbodies ring gear and announced that not only were Roode's orders ineffective in RCW, but that tonight Young would be fighting Rory Fox. Next out was Young's fellow TNA Superstar Hotstuff Hernandez who challenged Mike Foxx and Miss Laura to an intergender tag team match later in the evening. The challenge was accepted.
Before his match, The Mind of Wrestling JT LaMotta came to the ring and admonished the crowd for failing to support him, accusing them instead of embracing the gay lifestyle of the Hardbodies. To combat this, LaMotta called out the "toughest" man in the lockerroom which lead to the RCW debut of the shockingly flamboyant "Milky Smooth" Marty Cone.
During the Tag Championship Match, the challengers "Perfectly Beautiful" ran into some teamwork issues. During the confusion, LaMotta rushed the ring and attempted to superkick one of the Hardbodies, he missed however and knocked out Russo, setting up the pin and victory for the Hardbodies.
Prior to the intermission, RCW Commissioner Yebisu came to the ring and announced that he was resigning as commissioner. In an emotional pique, Yebisu stripped to his shorts and proclaimed "Don't Forget." Later in the show, Ray the voice was introduced as the new commissioner.
During the feature match with Eric Young, the newest member of the CoCK, Rory Fox, was clearly flustered by the chants of the crowd who managed to incorporate the Chicken Dance into the chanting and singing.
The main event was an intergender tag match in which the men and women were treated equally. That is men could be in the ring with women. The lovely Nicole suffered most from this as she was stuck in the ring with both Miss Laura and Mike Foxx, while Hotstuff Hernandez pleaded for the tag. Eventually, Nicole headed to the lockerroom, leaving Hernandez to fend for himself. Hernandez managed to duck a punch by Foxx, whose hand was wrapped in a chain thrown into the ring by the mysterious Mr. Peabody. Hernandez slammed Foxx for the pin. After the match, the CoCK rushed the ring to attack Hernandez. The other members of Team Mex came to make the save, but when several nooses were brought to the ring it appeared that CoCK was going to hold a Lynching Party. Eric Young rushed the ring with a chair, clearing the ring. New Commissioner Ray the Voice announced that the main event at the next show at Bellaire Baptist Church would be a four on four match inside an electrified steel cage. This event is set for May 19th.

Notes: This show was part of a MetalFest music show with bands playing sets between the matches. The team of Perfectly Beautiful, which had experienced difficulties the night before seemed to get its act together a bit as both D'Angelo and Russo won their singles matches with the help of their partner on the outside of the ring. Rory Fox won his biggest match since coming to RCW by upsetting TNA Superstar Hotstuff Hernandez. The main event was settled when Hernandez pinned Russo following a Hot Bomb.
The next RCW show will be May 19th at the Bellaire Baptist Church Gym. The main event will be an 8 man match between Team Mex and The Coalition of Caucasian Knight. This match will be contested inside an electrified steel cage.

Match # 1 - Triple Threat Match for RCW "Ring King"
Challenger Marty Cone (win & new Ring King) vs. Challenger Quinten Allen vs. Champion Joey Spector with Brandon Oliver
Match # 2 - Loser Must Wear a Dress
J.T. LaMotta vs. Andy Dalton with Brandon Oliver (win)
Match # 3 - Li Fang vs. "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo (win)
Match # 4 - J.T. LaMotta vs. Heidenreich (win)
Match # 5 - Steel Cage Match
Ikaika (win) vs. "One Man" Mike Dell
Match # 6 - Main Event - 8-Man Tag Team Electrified Steel Cage Match
The Coalition of Caucasian Knights - Mike Foxx, Rory Fox, Scott McKenzie & B.J. Turner with Miss Laura & "Big Daddy" Dick Dallas vs. Team Mex - Hotstuff Hernandez, Sicodelico Jr, Don Juan & Chris Marval with the Lovely Nicole (win)
Notes: "Milky Smooth" Marty Cone pinned Ring King Joey Spector in a 3-way match which also included former King Quinten Allen to become the new RCW Ring King.
In the second match, former partners J.T. LaMotta and Andrew Dalton of the Hardbodies fought with the stipulation that the loser would have to wear a dress. When LaMotta was pinned, he attempted to escape, but Dalton's manager Brandon Oliver caught LaMotta and along with Dalton returned him to the ring and forced him into the dress.
RCW favorite "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo beat Li Fang in Li's second match in RCW. Afterwards the fans applauded Li Fang's efforts and Li Fang showed his respect to the fans.
After the intermission, J.T. LaMotta returned to the ring (in the dress) and called out RCW commissioner Ray The Voice. LaMotta insisted that in order to prove he didn't belong in a dress, LaMotta would fight the biggest man in the locker room. Ray called Heidenreich to the ring. The former WWE Tag Champion started by reading one of his poems. Afterwards, LaMotta declared that the poem sucked and attacked the big man. Despite being about one half the size of his opponent and wrestling in a dress, LaMotta put forth a valiant effort, pressing Heidenreich to the limit before his eventual defeat. It was not announced how much longer LaMotta would be required to wear the dress.
The Cage Match between Ikaika and "One Man" Mike Dell ended in controversy as referee Alex Marrozos was knocked out during the match. While the ref was unconscious in the ring, Mike Dell escaped through the door apparently winning the match. Ikaika followed and hit Dell with a steel chair. Ikaika then rolled Dell back into the cage and ran to awaken the ref. Marrozos declared Ikaika the winner. Afterwards, Dell attacked Marrozos and berated the fans who did not seem to appreciate all that Dell does for them and for RCW.
The main event was an eight-man tag match inside an electrified steel cage between the Coalition of Caucasian Knights (CoCK) and Team Mex. The cage was set up with one lead attached to wires wrapped around the ring ropes and the other lead connected to the cage itself. Whenever someone touched both the rope and the cage, it completed the circuit causing that person to receive a shock from 3 car batteries. The Caucasian Knights were hesitant to remain in the cage when the electricity was about to be hooked up, but Team Mex forced them into the cage. The Caucasian Knights seemed more concerned with the electricity than their opponents and only managed to gain control when their body guard "Big Daddy" Dick Dallas and Miss Laura turned off the electricity. Ring Announcer Jeff Houston was waylaid by a wicked clothesline from Miss Laura and "Big Daddy" threw some chairs into the ring, giving his men the advantage. New Ring King Marty Cone attempted to come to the aid of Team Mex, but was relatively ineffective until the ring crew was able to get the electricity hooked back up. When the power came back on, two of the Caucasian Knights were severely shocked, allowing Team Mex to regain control over the other two members and all four members of Team Mex scored simultaneous pins over the members of the Caucasian Knights. Afterwards there appeared to be major dissention in the Caucasian Knights with B.J. Turner seemingly removing himself from the ranks of that organization.
This was the end of the Team MEX-Caucasian Knights feud.
