RCW: 2007 Year in Review, pt. 2
"Revelation"
Tiffany's Billiards
Friday June 1, 2007
Match # 1 - "One Man" Mike Dell vs. "Milky Smooth" Marty Cone (win)
Match # 2 - "Big Daddy" Dick Dallas vs. Ikaika (win)
Match # 3 - J.T. LaMotta vs. "Mr. Beautiful" Rudy Russo (win)
Match # 4 - RCW Cyber Championship Match
Challenger Rory Fox vs. Champion Sicodelico Jr. (win & retain title)
Match # 5 - RCW Tag Team Championship Match
Challengers The Texas Treats - Don Juan & Chris Marval vs. Champions The Hardbodies - Andrew Dalton & Joey Spector with Brandon Oliver (win & retain title)
Notes: Marty Cone is the current RCW Ring King, or in his case, Ring Queen, however after the match, Mike Dell beat down Marty Cone and stole the crown and cloak.
"Big Daddy" Dick Dallas has been seen with the Caucasian Knights for the last couple months, but tonight marked his first official match. RCW Commissioner Ray The Voice set up the match, but sent Dallas' partner Rory Fox to the back, forcing Dallas to face the Smashing Machine alone. Dallas was impressive in his in ring debut, but Ikaika was overwhelming and eventually forced Dick to tap out to an armbar submission.
J.T. LaMotta came to the ring wearing the dress that he was forced to wear after losing the match two weeks ago against his former partner Andrew Dalton. The dress eventually contributed to LaMotta's loss as Russo scored the pin when the dress covered LaMotta's head, blinding him.
In the Cyber Championship Match, challenger Rory Fox was unable to handle the distractions from the hostile crowd who clearly supported Sicodelico Jr.
The main event was announced as Brandon Oliver's final match as the manager for the champions The Hardbodies. Andrew Dalton and Joey Spector dedicated the match to Oliver and displayed solid tag team tactics in match. The Challengers had some difficulty with the tactics and were frustrated early. Near the end, Don Juan became upset when Referee Alex Marrozos refused to count his pin on Spector as Chris Marval was the legal man in the ring. Later Marval pulled Don Juan off a pin because Marval was legal. Don Juan had enough and dropped an elbow on his partner which lead to the Hardbodies gaining the win.
After the match, Don Juan grabbed a microphone and explained his actions, effectively dissolving the Texas Treats. Chris Marval attacked Don Juan and when Sicodelico Jr. came to the ring to attempt to separate his Team-Mex partners, all he was able to do was to force the action outside the ring. The locker room emptied as the wrestlers from the back attempted to separate Chris Marval and Don Juan. This led to an all out brawl as all the wrestlers became involved in the fighting. Eventually the wrestlers went to the back as the show came to an end.
Also during the month of June, RCW and Pro Wrestling International reached a working agreement. Also, “Mr. Beautiful” Rudy Russo starred in a commercial for KENS-5 and would eventually star ina Time Warner commercial that has been replayed countless times.

Challenger Ikaika vs. Champion Masada (win & retain title)
Notes: This show was originally announced for Tiffany's Billiards, but the early week weather forecast prompted RCW to move to an indoor location. The Hope of Glory welcomed RCW back. Nearly 2 years ago, the Hope of Glory Church hosted the rebirth of RCW in a show that lead directly to the current wrestling revival in San Antonio.
The opening match was announced as a dark match and marked the RCW debut of Shawn Vexx who had a good showing against the masked luchador El Medico Azul. The match ended when Medico hit a senton on Vexx and covered him for the pin. Immediately two men, Chuey Martinez and Rexx Reed ran into the ring attacking both Vexx and Medico. Chuey proclaimed that together he and Reed were the new Tag Team force in RCW and are collectively known as "The Xtreme Assassins."
Mike Dell was pushed to the limit in his match by the crazed Wally Darkmon, but was able to hit the spear and gain the pinfall after referree Alex Marrozos inadvertently hit Darkmon in the stomach with Wally's cane which Alex had been struggling to take from Dell. Marrozos reluctantly counted the pin.
The triple threat match saw J.T. LaMotta, Danny Matthews and Rudy Russo face off. Fans supported Russo throughout, but cheered the outstanding offensive and defensive moves of all three men. Russo gained the victory after hitting two consecutive Gory Bombs on LaMotta.
In the tag team championship match, the Champions, the Hardbodies introduced their new manager Naughty Nikki. Their opponents were the team of Kris Kronie and Marty Cone. Despite never tagging as a team before, Kronie and Cone showed good teamwork, but the champions were able to take advantage of their experience as a team, scoring the pin for the victory. After the match, the four men showed respect for one another, shaking hands and posing together for the crowd.
The Cyber Championship was on the line next as Champion Sicodelico Jr. faced the challenge of Scott McKenzie who came to the ring with his partner Danny Matthews. The whole match Scott tried to take of Sico's mask, in the end, Danny Matthews came in and tried to hit Sico w/ the belt, he ducked and tried to take the belt from Matthews. While he had both hands on the belt Matthews let go, ripped off his mask, causing Sico to cover his face and fall victim to a schoolboy rollup from Scott. Three seconds latter RCW had a new Cyber Champion. Commissioner Ray The Voice declared that there would be a rematch at the next show, August 18th at Tiffany's Billiards.
The featured Tag Team match was next as former partners Don Juan and Chris Marval squared off, each choosing a partner. Don Juan chose Rory Fox, while Marval chose TNA superstar "Showtime" Eric Young. Both teams worked well together and the action moved quickly until "One Man" Mike Dell interjected himself into the match, leading to the disqualification of Fox and Don Juan. There was no time to celebrate for Marval and Young however as Dell and Young fought back into the locker room while Fox and Don Juan attacked Marval, handcuffing him to the ring rope and continuing the assault. Eventually Young returned and saved his partner but Marval was clearly shaken by the beating. The rivalry between Marval and Don Juan is far from over.
The Main Event saw the return of RCW Champion Masada as he defended his belt against "The Smashing Machine" Ikaika in a match of the year candidate. These two men pounded on one another for over 20 minutes in and out of the ring until Ikaika hit a German Suplex on Masada. Both men's shoulders were on the mat as the ref started the count, but Masada was able to get his shoulder up in time and scored the victory. As the crowd chanted "Rematch," commissioner Ray the Voice came out and proclaimed that indeed there would be a rematch at the next show on August 18th.
August 18 event CANCELED due to flooding & rain!
River City Wrestling conversed with Tiffany's Billiards, and it was decided to cancel the Saturday, August 18 event due to flooding and rain in San Antonio.
RCW's main concern are those driving in from out of town. Although chances of rain lowered, due to Tiffany's being an outside venue, it would be better to cancel the event in advance and let those wrestlers from out of town know. First, the weather is definitely a safety concern for those driving in, and it would be a terrible situation if the guys from Dallas, Houston, Louisiana, etc. drove all the way to San Antonio and the show was rained out.
Low Low Car Show

Sunday September 9, 2007
Match # 1 - Tag Team Match
Gregory Symonds & Rob Raw vs. Sicodelico Jr. & SKAM 13 (win)
Match # 2 - "One Man" Mike Dell vs. Dusty Wolfe (win-DQ)
Match # 3 - RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Challenger Rory Fox (win & new champion) vs. Champion Masada
Match # 4 - J.T. LaMotta vs. Rudy Russo (win)
Match # 5 - Main Event - RCW Tag Team Title Match - Triple Threat Match
Challengers # 1 - Ikaika & Marty Cone vs. Challengers # 2 - The Texas Treats: Don Juan & Chris Marval (win & new champions) vs. Champions - The Hardbodies: Andy Dalton & Joey Spector
Notes: RCW was a central part of the Low Low Car Show at Rosedale Park Sunday. The show began as RCW CEO Brandon Oliver called out the RCW Tag Team Champions The Hardbodies: Andy Dalton & Joey Spector. As it turns out, the Hardbodies are now the longest reigning Tag Champs in RCW history. At this point, Don Juan came out and demanded a shot at the title. Don Juan went so far as to say that Oliver could pick anyone on the RCW roster as his partner. When Marty Cone came out of the locker room and offered his service since he had previously won a shot at any championship in RCW. Don Juan balked at this offer and Brandon Oliver revealed that the two would not team. Rather they will each be assigned a partner and challenge for the belts in a 3 way dance. Brandon then called out the first man who would partner in the match, The Smashing Machine Ikaika. Unfortunately for Don Juan, Ikaika was being teamed with Marty Cone. Don Juan's partner was to be none other than Chris Marval, Don Juan's former partner in the Texas Treats. Neither Don Juan nor Chris Marval seemed terribly excited about the prospect of teaming once again.
The opening match was a tag team match featuring the team of Gregory Symonds and Rob Raw facing the enmascaradas Sicodelico Jr. & SKAM 13 from Mexico. The crowd was clearly behind the luchadores and thrilled by the victory when Sicodelico Jr. pinned Symonds.
In the second match, Dusty Wolfe faced "One Man" Mike Dell. The younger, more athletic Dell was never able to overcome the experience of the veteran Wolfe and eventually took his frustrations out on the referee Alex Marrozos who disqualified Dell, giving Dusty the win.
The third match was for the RCW Heavyweight Title as Rory Fox challenged for Masada's belt. At first Fox seemed intimidated by Masada, but eventually Fox engaged the big man from Big Japan. In perhaps the upset of the day, Rory managed to steal the victory with a handful of tights becoming the new RCW Heavyweight Champion.
In the next match, JT LaMotta renewed his rivalry with Rudy Russo and LaMotta's string of hard luck in RCW matches continued as Russo was able to pick up the victory with a Gory Bomb.
In the main event, both teams of challengers had difficulty cooperating as The former partners Don Juan and Chris Marval were barely able to avoid attacking one another, and the Smashing Machine Ikaika seemed more or less annoyed by the antics of the flamboyant Marty Cone. The Champions seemed confident that their experience and teamwork advantage would prevail. But in the end, the unthinkable occurred. Don Juan seized advantage of the confusion and scored the pinfall victory over Andy Dalton. The Texas Treats, reluctantly reunited were once again RCW Tag Team Champions. After the match, Joey Spector was livid at the loss, blaming his partner, Spector attacked Dalton, effectivly ending the partnership.
October 6, 2007
River City Wrestling owner Brandon Oliver issued the following announcement today:
This is a hard decision to make, but after talking with close associates as well as family, I have decided to put RCW on hiatus for a period of time undetermined effective after the October 20 event. This has actually been decided for a few months, but I will make it official following the October 20 event.
This has been a decision that I have been discussing for awhile now, and recent outside interests have cemented this decision for me.
At this time, I would like to make the following thank yous:
Thank you to the fans for supporting us and adopting us. I never believed I would see fans wear RCW shirts at WWE and Ring of Honor events – and these included events outside of San Antonio and even Texas – but it happened. At the top of my list of “pros” for continuing RCW was the fans, providing them enjoyment after the local scene was in the doldrums for so many years. You inspired us to perform and breathe new life into San Antonio wrestling. The fans went above and beyond in caring about RCW and those within RCW. You have affected so many of us, and I thank you.
The second thank you goes out to the volunteers of RCW – the nameless faces who volunteered their time and efforts to help a product grow. These individuals did what they could to make sure RCW put on the best show it could.
Thank you to my family, who stayed and helped after many others have left. Without their support, nothing is possible. Thank you to my best friend Josh. He was also my support.
And, without question, thank you to the wrestlers, referees, announcers, managers, production team and all of those that made up RCW. You guys put your heart and soul behind this product, and I appreciate it. You put RCW ahead of things and helped it grow.
I believe that if I cannot give 100% to promoting RCW, then I should stop. Last year, when my daughter was born, I took time off because quite frankly there were days when I wasn’t sure if I would see her again. However, RCW was my solace … I kept in contact with fans, wrestlers, and volunteers, and kept thinking about returning. With my daughter gaining strength, but still in the hospital, I made a decision to restart RCW.
And as I said, if I can’t give 100% to promoting RCW, then I should step out. So, I am making that decision. I have been in the wrestling business for seven years, and RCW has existed since 2002. Bare in mind that this isn’t permanent, but this break is very needed and necessary.
I want to wish the local wrestling scene a lot of luck, and hope everyone aspires to and achieves their goals.
I will be supporting PWI and a new promotion opening up called Southern Championship Wrestling, promoted by Don Holding. I have spoke with Holding many times and I believe he will do an excellent job.
Once again, thank you. Thanks for the memories. RCW has meant a lot to me, and I hope it has meant a lot to you.
Sincerely,
Brandon Oliver

Champion Sicodelico Jr. vs. Kosakai with Commissioner Yebisu (win & new champion)
Match # 8 - Main Event - RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Champion Rory Fox vs. Challenger Ikaika (win & new champion)
Notes: This show was named "The End of an Era?" in that it is the last scheduled RCW show as River City Wrestling is going on hiatus for an undetermined time. The significance of the event was not lost on those in attendance or those working the show.
Aguila Negro made his return to RCW in the first match, picking up the win over Rudy Russo.
In the second match, "Playboy" Danny Matthews was accompanied to the ring by his tag-team partner RCW Cyber Champion Scott McKenzie, but was unable to beat JT LaMotta in an impressive match.
Prior to the third match, Mr. Yebisu announced that in the absence of Ray The Voice, who was unable to attend, he was resuming his role as RCW Commissioner. Commissioner Yebisu then introduced his tag team "The Judo Blackbelts" - Tomohiko Hashimoto and Masato Shibata who were facing the reunited "Natural Athletes" - Mike Dell & Quinten Allen. Dell and Allen worked well together despite not having teamed in over a year and managed to pick up the victory.
The RCW tag-team champions "The Texas Treats"- Don Juan and Chris Marval faced off against each other in an incredible match lasting well over 20 minutes as each tried to show who was the superior member of the team. In the end, Chris Marval won the respect he needed from Don Juan with a clean pin victory. After the match, the two shook hands and embraced, ending the dispute that had caused them to separate several months ago.
Next, it was the tag team "The Hardbodies" who faced off against each other as Joey Spector and Andy Dalton attempted to settle the differences that had caused them to separate at the last show when they dropped the tag titles to the Treats. The match went the distance, ending in a time limit draw, but rather than continue the match for 5 more minutes, the two settled their differences and were joined in celebrating by former Hardbody JT LaMotta and former Manager Brandon Oliver.
In the next match, RCW Cyber Champion Scott McKenzie defended his title against former Champion Sicodelico Jr. and former WWE Superstar Shawn Daivari. Early in the match, McKenzie's partner Danny Matthews was sent away from ringside by referee Alex Marrozos. For most of the match, Daivari and Sicodelico Jr. worked together against the Champion, but eventually the match broke down to every man for himself. After McKenzie tossed Daivari outside the ring, Sicodelico Jr. hit McKenzie with a superkick and covered him for the pin, becoming the new RCW Cyber Champion.
After that match, RCW Commissioner Yebisu came to the ring and introduced Kosakai and challenged Sicodelico Jr. for his new belt. Sicodelico Jr. accepted the challenge but found himself in over his head as Yebisu interfered freely in the match on behalf of his man. At the end of his second hard match, Sicodelico Jr. was pinned following receiving a kendo stick to the head from Yebisu. After the match, Yebisu announced that even though RCW was going on hiatus, the Cyber Title would continue on as Kosakai would take the belt back to Japan and defend it there as the "RCW International Title." Sicodelico Jr. vowed to go to Japan to get the title back. When this match does take place it will be significant as this title will become the first truly International Title in San Antonio.
In the main event, new RCW Heavyweight Champion Rory Fox faced the challenge of "The Smashing Machine" Ikaika. Although these men have vastly different styles, the match was outstanding as each was stretched in different directions by the other. At the end of the match, both men's shoulders were on the mat, but Ikaika managed to get his shoulder up as the 3 count was made and once again Ikaika was declared the RCW Heavyweight Champion.
After the match, the entire lockerroom came to the ring to celebrate all that RCW has meant to them and to San Antonio Wrestling in general over the last 26 months. Credit was given to all those who contributed to the success of the promotion that was largely responsible for revitalizing local wrestling beginning in the final months of 2005. Fans were thanked for their support and assured that RCW would return at some point down the road.
The San Antonio Independent Wrestling Scene would like to take this opportunity to extend my personal thank you to RCW, Brandon Oliver and all of those who helped to entertain me and the rest of the San Antonio fans and I just want to say, "I'll see you at the next show."
Nov. 18 200,7 at Tokyo Shinkiba Arena
RCW International Champion, Kosakai, defeated Seiji Takeda, challenger, with Dragon Suplex hold for the Takehan Promotion. The RCW International Championship is scheduled to be defended in Japan once again during the month of January 2008.
END OF YEAR NOTES:
2007 was a true rollercoaster year for RCW. One thing cannot be disputed … since 2005, RCW ushered in a new wave of fans, and brought interest back to the San Antonio scene.
Thank you to the fans, sponsors (BIG RED jAK & Gallista Gallery), our volunteers, my family, the extraordinary athletes/refs/announcers of RCW, and our venues.
Thank you for your support in 2007!
